Alibre Motion is
a motion simulation solution for analyzing
the behavior of mechanical assemblies with
moving parts. When designing mechanical
systems and mechanism that move, such as
linkages, engines, automotive suspensions,
conveyors, etc., it is important to
understand how various components interact
and behave according the to engineering
principles and physical laws.
With Alibre
Motion you can build virtual prototypes to
help analyze and optimize designs without
having to build and test expensive and
time-consuming physical prototypes. Alibre
Motion enables multi-body dynamic analysis
on an assembly created in Alibre Design
enabling one to realistically predict and
visualize the assembly's motion.
Features and
Benefits
Easy
creation of virtual prototypes with
Automatic Constraint Mapping
Alibre Motion automatically creates a
corresponding motion model of an assembly
created in Alibre Design using the assembly
constraints defined when modeling the
assembly. This allows one to quickly create
a virtual prototype that can be "put into
motion" with very little additional effort.
Mechanisms or machines to be simulated can
include parts, joints and actuators, like a
motor or a force.
Quick
creation of animations that can be saved as
AVIs
Alibre Motion allows users to quickly
capture the simulated motion as an AVI video
for replay by popular view players like
Windows Media Player. Animated simulations
can then be used to demonstrate a concept to
a colleague or customer, or used in
marketing or sales materials to demonstrate
products for sale.
Generate
Motion with prescribed rotations and
translations
Alibre Motion allows one to prescribe a
rotation or translation to a part to view
the kinematic motion of an assembly.
Generate
Motion due to gravity and prescribed forces
and torques
Alibre Motion allows one to account for the
effect of gravity in a physical system as
well as simulating true dynamic motion by
prescribing a force or torque, such as that
generated by a motor or actuator in a
real-world machine.
Accurate
modeling with a variety of physical elements
Alibre Motion includes a variety of tools
for modeling a mechanism or machine using
joints, constraints, motors, actuators,
springs, dampers, forces, torques or
gravity.
Interference and collision detection
Alibre Motion provides automated
interference detection in a moving assembly
allowing one to determine the position in an
assembly's motion in which parts collide.
Once a collision is determined the user can
then zoom in on the area of concern and
refine the design to remove the
interference.
Helpful
simulation feedback including motion traces
and XY plots of results
Users can also study the motion of the
assembly by creating a motion trace defining
the motion of a given point on the assembly.
Users can study the system's motion in the
form of plots of various kinematic and
dynamic properties. XY plots can be
generated for positions, velocities,
accelerations, forces and torques. These
tools allow users to graphically view
important properties and results to assess
if and how the mechanism or machine will
function in its intended real-world
environment. |
Alibre Motion is
capable of both kinematic and dynamic
analysis. In kinematics one is concerned
with the motion of objects without concern
for the forces that cause the motion, and in
dynamics one is concerned with the forces.

This example
plots the acceleration of the piston in red
and the velocity of the piston in blue.
Quickly check
the model for parts that will collide when
in motion.
